Smile and the scripting addition Satimage work only on PowerPC machines. No version of either software is available for 680x0 processors.
Overview
Smile is both an AppleScript editor for beginners and an integrated environment for advanced AppleScript users.
AppleScript beginners will immediately find Smile an easy, comfortable and intuitive editor to make their first scripts. A "Guided Tour" provides an easy presentation of Smile, and the documentation available thru the Help menu is exhaustive.
Smile fills Apple's Script Editor's main gaps : 'Search' / 'Replace' / 'Compare' / 'Find definition', no 32k limit, drag-and-drop, keyboard selection. It implements the most recent Apple technologies (Appearance, Navigation).
In addition it provides lots of tools to make scripting faster, easier, and safer.
Installation
At the first level of the archive folder, there is a folder named "-> System Folder". Open it. It contains a folder named "Smile help", and two scripting additions named "Satimage" and "AppleScript Formatting".
- Drop the icons of the two scripting additions on the icon of your System folder.
- Open your System folder.
- Move the "Smile help" folder to the "Help" folder of your System folder. If there is no "Help" folder in your System folder (OS before 8.5), simply move the "Smile help" folder into the folder of Smile (the application itself).
- Move the "Smile ƒ" folder wherever suitable.
Getting started
Open the "Smile ƒ" folder and double-click Smile.
If you are using Smile for the first time, you may want to start with the "Guided Tour". Double-click the "Guided Tour" icon, which is at the first level of the archive folder.
When Smile is running, the 'Help' menu provides the full documentation. Please refer to this help for any information. It is recommended to use the search function of the help.
To open the documentation, pull down the 'Help' menu, and choose 'Smile help'. Or, press the 'Help' key.
Distribution and property
Smile is distributed by Satimage on a feedbackware basis. If you choose to use it please pay your share : report to Satimage any bug, incompatibility, or suggestion. Instructions for contacting Satimage can be found in the Help.
You may distribute Smile freely yourself, or sell it, alone or included in your own product, untouched or customized. In any case you must conform to the following:
- do not suppress any of the "Satimage" marks built in the software, in particular do not change nor remove the splash screen, nor the About menu,
- and distribute the "Read me" file with it.
